Change, be it Personal Change or Career Change, is (seemingly) hard.
But, I always remind people that you are: A) One year from not feeling like a fish out of water in your new path; B) Three years from being highly competent; and C) Five years from being an expert.
When looked at from that perspective, changing one’s outlook, behavior and focus is…workable!
So what holds us back?
Fear of the unknown.
Fear of failure.
Fear of losing some aspect of one’s life.
But, mostly it’s an unwillingness to see a dead-end for what it is, an unwillingness to fight gravity, and a lack of direct, pragmatic, intellectual honesty.
Most of us know when something isn’t working, but we continue down dead-end paths because it’s the path of least resistance.
To this, I say carve out some thinking time, some writing time, and don’t search for grand bolts of magnificent understanding (it’s rarer than you think).
Just take note of your honest truths, and shine a brighter and brighter light on those truths, day by day.
Light is the best antiseptic.
