One of the great productivity “wins” delivered by embracing AI is Increased Agency in the form of being able to launch & execute multiple tasks simultaneously.
Four “jobs” are already seeing disruption at the low end, but easy to see how they disrupt in segments where deep vertical agility, in the form of agile computing coupled with agile intelligence, moves the needle. They are:
- “Analyze this topic.”
- “Research the leading products in this segment.”
- “Generate iconic images for this article.”
- “Build this app for my client.”
Understanding Agency
Why should increasing agency be a personal, professional, organizational or enterprise be a point of focus?
Simply put, it turns scarcity into surplus, and when a former expensive resource become basically free, a lot of wealth is created, and not just monetarily.
Four benefits of increased agency:
- Control: Greater precision operationally of thoughts, feelings & actions.
- Choice: Greater optionality, solutions rarely feel stuck.
- Intentionality: Ability to plan and deterministically execute specific goals.
- Ownership: Own the outcomes with low lift to course-correct.
Turning One-Way Doors into Two-Way Doors
Jeff Bezos’ “two-way door” decision framework is a mental model that classifies choices by how easy they are to reverse, allowing individuals and teams to make fast, low-risk choices without overthinking.

One of Bezos’ observations is that people and companies often confuse two-way doors, which are easy in, easy out, with one-way doors, which are high cost decisions.
This leads companies to being overly conservative when it comes to testing out new ideas, trialing new initiatives and experimenting with tweaks and refinements to existing endeavors.
Al makes it very easy to iterate and extend ideas multi-directionally, essentially turning one-way doors (high cost to get in/out) into two-way doors (easy in/easy out).
The win is logarithmic because the cost of testing the seed of an idea, or five variations of that seed, is exceedingly low.
